Sixty Seconds with Judi
As summer comes to her final weeks, we are blessed with what I think may be the best, most versatile fruit of all; the tomato! You can pluck them off the vine and eat them warm in the summer sun. Grab some good bread, a little mayo and salt and pepper and you have the best sandwich maybe ever! If you were to add some to a grilled cheese – well, holy cow! Let us not forget Bruschetta, add some basil, garlic and olive oil to a chopped ripe tomato and you have an instant party for your mouth. Add your Bruschetta to some pasta with some cheese and dinner is ready! We haven’t even mentioned salsas and sauces! Let’s face it, is there any other fruit that you miss as much during the winter than a tomato?
Okay are you hungry now? There are so many things you can do with tomatoes I could go on forever, but I only have sixty seconds! So, instead of me rambling on, how about you come up to Linvilla Orchards on Saturday, August 26th for the Tomato Celebration and we will show you a few things. Come taste the many assortment of tomatoes we have here on the farm with Farmer Norm. Learn why everyone raves about the heirloom varieties. And while you’re at it, grab some tasty tomatoes for your own family recipes.
Join us on Saturday, August 26th from 11am to 4pm
Silly Joe will be hosting the Tomato Celebration. Shake your maracas and wear your sombreros because it is going to be a FIESTA!
Enjoy the Musical Performances by our friends, the Trinidad Steel Band at 12 pm and again at 2 pm
Farmer Norm Schultz will be hosting his annual Tomato Talk & Tomato Tasting in front of our Farm Market at 10:00 am. He will discuss growing tomatoes at Linvilla Orchards and explain how and why we grow the many varieties found on the farm. A tomato tasting from heirlooms to plum tomatoes will be included; you can experience the flavors between varieties for yourself!
